OUR COMMUNITY
WELCOME TO LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP
Welcome to Lawrence Township, a proud rural community nestled along the Delaware Bayshore in Cumberland County, New Jersey.
Spanning 38.5 square miles of productive farmland, tidal marshes, and scenic waterways, Lawrence Township is home to the village of Cedarville and the waterfront community of Bay Point on the Delaware Bay.
Incorporated on February 17, 1885 from portions of Fairfield Township, Lawrence Township was named in honor of Captain James Lawrence — commander of the frigate USS Chesapeake and a naval hero of the War of 1812. Captain Lawrence is best remembered for his dying command, “Don’t Give Up the Ship” — words that have inspired Americans for over two centuries.
We are a close-knit community that values our agricultural heritage, our natural landscapes, and the quality of life that comes from small-town living. Whether you are a longtime resident, a new neighbor, or visiting our corner of New Jersey, we welcome you.
